HSA: Humanities Students Association

PRESIDENT: MARIAN POND

Degree:  Bachelor of Law & Bachelor of Arts (majoring in French and International Relations).

I am originally from country NSW; however I spent my high school years at a boarding school in Sydney. After year 12, I participated in the ‘Gap’ scheme, where I worked full time for a year in Oxford, United Kingdom. In 2006, I was awarded a scholarship to study at Bond and I have now been at Bond for 9 semesters. Over my time at Bond, I feel that I have experienced many aspects of Bond’s academic, social and cultural environment.

Goals for 2009/2010:

As President, my aim for the 2009/2010 HSA is to ensure that the association remains proactive, efficient and accountable. This aim will be achieved by ensuring that the HSA work effectively as a team. This will allow us to implement a number of new initiatives that are not only beneficial to HSS Students, but are also realistic and achievable.

A brief overview of the 2009/10 HSA’s initiatives include:

Raise HSA’s profile:

      1. Create a new HSA website, ensuring that it is always up-to-date, accessible and user friendly.
      2. Publish the new monthly publication ‘Insight’, which showcases the skills and talent of HSS students and staff.
      3. Improve on the promotion of all events the HSA holds.

Academic affairs:

      1. Coordinate end of semester revision seminars, which will assist students when preparing for final exams.
      2. Develop an up-to-date tutor database, which will outline available tutors for selected study areas.

Career Development:

      1. In conjunction with the HSS Faculty, create an ‘Internship Guide’ which will assist students in their career planning.
      2. Also, coordinate various career networking events such as the ‘HSS Graduate Panel’.

Competitions:

      1. Develop numerous HSS related competitions, including: language competitions, creative writing competitions and public speaking and debating competitions.

Social events:

  • Continue to coordinate White House and ensure it remains a classy on-campus event.
  • Create new events for the post-graduate students, including a ‘Wine and Cheese’ night.
